Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested six people — five Nigerians and one Ghanaian — for attacking and robbing people who had just withdrawn money from banks in Kumasi.
According to the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Emmanuel Teye Cudjoe, the suspects followed their victims after they withdrew large amounts of money from financial institutions. The gang would then break into the victims’ cars and steal the cash. These robberies have been happening over the past month.

The police identified two suspects through intelligence and surveillance camera footage from the police emergency command centre. Two vehicles used in the robberies — a gold Toyota Highlander (GT 2471-14) and a black Toyota Highlander (GX 7124-12) — were found with fake number plates.

On Thursday, 19th June 2025, around 10:00 am, police arrested three more suspects: 29-year-old taxi driver Russell Ekenze, 49-year-old Francis Friday, and 51-year-old trader Linus Agwazie.
The suspects confessed to committing similar robberies in various parts of Kumasi, including Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Mayanka, Asokwa, the Central Mosque, ShopRite, and near Georgia Hotel.

They also mentioned other members of their group: Cosmas Maduabuchukwu, Ezuchukwu, C.J, DD, and Lele. One of them, Cosmas, was shot while resisting arrest but escaped.
Currently, six suspects are in police custody, and the two vehicles used for their crimes have been seized. A manhunt is ongoing for Cosmas and the others who are still on the run.

Initial investigations show that all members of the group are Nigerians, except for one member, DD, who is Ghanaian. All arrested suspects have been taken to court for legal processing.
The police have assured the public that they are working hard to keep everyone safe in the region.
