Daddy Lumba’s Family Dismisses Reports of Joint Widowhood Rites

The family of Daddy Lumba, the late Ghanaian high-life legend, has rejected rumours that his wife Akosua Serwaa and alleged partner Priscilla Ofori Atta (popularly known as “Odo Broni”) agreed to perform widowhood rites together. In a statement dated 26 October 2025, the family described such reports as “false, misleading and without any factual or legal basis.”

The statement confirmed that a meeting took place on 24 October 2025 at Asawasehenefie in Kumasi, chaired by Nana Osei Kwame Kyeretwie, the Nkosuohene of Asanteman. The purpose was to clarify the marital status of Daddy Lumba. During the gathering, Odo Broni’s representative was asked to produce a marriage certificate or other legal document, but none was provided.

Because no legal proof of marriage from Odo Broni’s side emerged, Nana Osei Kwame Kyeretwie determined that the only recognised widow is Akosua Serwaa. He noted that the final decision still lies with the High Court in Kumasi, where a case is ongoing.

Akosua Serwaa filed a lawsuit on 2 October 2025 at the Kumasi High Court against Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu, Odo Broni and Transitions Funeral Home. She challenged efforts that she says undermine her status as the legal wife of Daddy Lumba. The court adjourned the matter to 28 October 2025 following a motion by the first defendant.

In closing, the family requested the media and public to disregard claims about joint widowhood rites. They stressed that only the court’s ruling can determine the rightful widow and any cultural rites connected to that status.
