Gyakie Says Her Music Career Is Driven by Hunger, Not Just Passion

Ghanaian singer Gyakie has shared what truly motivates her in her music journey, saying it’s more than just love for music. In an interview on Luv FM’s DriveTime with Melvin Da Enigma, the “Something” hitmaker said her career is powered by a deep hunger to succeed and leave a strong mark in the industry.

“My music journey isn’t just about passion. I’m hungry for it,” she said. “Passion alone can fade away when challenges come. But when you’re hungry for something, you keep pushing no matter what.”

Although Gyakie is the daughter of the legendary Highlife musician Nana Acheampong, she said her path hasn’t been easy. “I had to hustle. Even though my dad is well-known, he taught me to work for things myself,” she shared. This drive to create her own success has helped shape who she is today.

Gyakie also talked about her upcoming album, After Midnight, saying it’s ready and very personal. While the album talks about love, she explained that it’s not just about romance. “I’m sharing love because I enjoy seeing people happy. I’ve felt the good sides of love, and I want to spread that,” she said.

Still, her journey hasn’t been without struggles. She admitted she once doubted her work while recording one of her albums. “I felt I didn’t do enough. But after the release, fans told me it was amazing. Sometimes I want to give up, but then I get a message like, ‘I love your music,’ and that keeps me going. I don’t joke with my fans. They have the power to build or break you,” she said.

Gyakie also spoke about the pressures of the internet, saying it can be a negative space. “That’s where the demons are now,” she warned. “People live their lives online. If you want to give up on life, spend all your time there. I control my life outside of the internet, and that’s how I stay real.”

With her new single Sankofa already gaining attention and serving as a preview of After Midnight, Gyakie is not just releasing songs — she’s sharing her true self. If hunger is what fuels her, then her music career is only going to get stronger.
