Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a former Member of Parliament for Assin Central and a flagbearer hopeful for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has criticized former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
Ken Agyapong questioned Dr Bawumia’s claim of having great ideas, saying he has not shown any results to back them up. This was in reaction to comments Dr Bawumia made during a meeting with former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) who served between 2017 and 2024.

At the meeting held on Monday, June 23, at Alisa Hotel, Dr Bawumia said that while he may not be as wealthy as Ken Agyapong, he has “rich ideas” and stressed that even people without money can become President of Ghana.

Responding to this, Ken Agyapong posted on social media:
“In life, some people have big ideas but nothing to show for them. Others take action and turn their ideas into results and success. Ghana needs people who get things done, not people in suits making speeches.”
This back-and-forth comes as the NPP prepares for its presidential primaries on Saturday, January 31, 2026. Tensions within the party are rising as candidates and their supporters compete for leadership.

Meanwhile, a group of over 200 former MMDCEs who served under the NPP government from 2017 to 2024 has publicly declared their support for Dr Bawumia. The group, calling itself the Forum of Former MMDCEs for Dr Bawumia, believes he is the best choice to lead the party and win the 2028 elections.

The group also denied claims that over 250 former MMDCEs had endorsed Ken Agyapong. The lead spokesperson described the claim as false and said no official statement had been made in that regard.
