Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign team has accused organizers of setting up a fake endorsement during the New Patriotic Party (NPP) national delegates conference. The event took place on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the University of Ghana Stadium.
A spokesperson for Agyapong’s team, Kwasi Kwarteng, described the incident as “carefully designed” to mislead conference attendees. He said the endorsement was not voluntary and was orchestrated by certain individuals to give the impression that Agyapong had broad backing from delegates.
According to Kwarteng, delegates were allegedly instructed before the conference to stand up or clap on cue whenever Agyapong’s name was mentioned. This, he argues, was meant to create a false impression of widespread support. He also pointed out that some delegates looked confused or hesitant during the supposed endorsement moment, raising doubts about its authenticity .
Representatives of the conference have not yet responded publicly to these accusations. Agyapong’s team called on party leaders to quickly look into what they say was deceptive behavior and to take action to prevent similar incidents in future events.
Kennedy Ohene Agyapong is a well-known Ghanaian politician and businessman. He served as Member of Parliament first for Assin North (2001–2013) and then for Assin Central (2013–2025) . Over the years, he has built a reputation as a bold and outspoken figure within the NPP.

The NPP delegates conference is a key gathering where party members discuss internal reforms and strategies ahead of upcoming elections. The July 19 meeting included discussions about motions, leadership roles, and other organizational matters .
Some commentators say the staging allegation could harm the party’s reputation, arguing that manipulating delegate responses undermines trust in internal democracy. Others suggest this claim may be part of a competitive campaign strategy ahead of party primaries.
Agyapong’s team has urged senior party officials—including the national executive committee—to investigate the matter quickly. They also want transparent feedback from the conference organizers and assurances against any repeat of staged endorsements.
The next NPP gathering is scheduled ahead of the 2028 general election. Many NPP supporters now hope the party takes steps to ensure meetings remain honest and transparent.
