Ghanaian singer-songwriter Kuami Eugene says his time at Lynx Entertainment was never about proving himself against the likes of KiDi or other major label mates. In a recent talk with NY DJ on the show BTM Afrika, he described his motivation at the label as one of survival and self-building — not rivalry.
Kuami Eugene explained that when he signed with Lynx, many of the other artistes were already established and had resources. He said he arrived “with nothing” and had to build his path from the ground up. He contrasted his own hunger with what others may have had, noting that difference wasn’t the other artistes’ fault.
He recalled walking from Fadama to Achimota just to access the company’s studio, while others drove. He stressed he hardly slept as he hustled to make his mark.
Despite fan assumptions of a rivalry between him and KiDi (who is also signed to Lynx), Kuami Eugene dispelled the notion entirely. He said he has never viewed KiDi — or indeed anyone at Lynx — as competition. Instead, he emphasized that he focused on his own craft and progress.

He also suggested that maybe his level of drive inadvertently spurred others to push harder. But he maintained his mindset was never one of comparison or contest.
Beyond his solo ambition, Kuami Eugene expressed deep respect for his fellow Lynx artistes including KiDi, MzVee, DJ Vyrusky and founder Richie Mensah. He described Lynx not as a battleground, but as a family-style environment in which he learned important lessons.
Kuami Eugene summed up his arrival at the label by saying the hunger he felt came from needing to build a life, not simply to dominate others. He said: “I came to survive,” highlighting the stark difference between his beginnings and the environment he stepped into.
