Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Ghana’s Defence Minister, has announced that the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) plans to recruit 12,000 young people over the next four years .
This recruitment drive aims to strengthen the country’s military and offer stable jobs to youth. The minister shared the news on Facebook on June 19, 2025, and asked young Ghanaians to get ready for a career “full of purpose” .

Applicants are encouraged to ensure they are medically fit, because military training is tough, and some trainees have died during the process .
The recruitment will be rolled out in stages. Each year, around 3,000 individuals will be selected until all 12,000 spots are filled .
An earlier recruitment campaign in September 2024 targeted officer corps and short‑service commission roles. The ongoing process is checking applications from that round. People who meet the criteria have been contacted to continue, and those unsuccessful have been informed .
A timeline for the new application process hasn’t been released yet, but the Defence Minister says details—such as dates, qualifications, and application steps—will be shared soon .
