Kalsoume Sinare Appointed as Ghana’s Ambassador to Spain

Renowned Ghanaian actress and filmmaker, Kalsoume Sinare Baffoe, has been appointed as Ghana’s ambassador to Spain by President John Dramani Mahama.

The announcement was made on June 21, 2025, in a letter signed by the Secretary to the President, Callistus Mahama. Her appointment is part of a batch of 15 new diplomatic postings, which includes ambassadors, high commissioners, and a consul-general, all selected to represent Ghana in different parts of the world.

Kalsoume Sinare, who is widely respected in the entertainment industry, brings many years of experience in acting and public engagement to her new diplomatic role. She is well-known for her performances in movies like Out of Sight, Crossfire, Ties That Bind, and Trinity. Her talent and screen presence made her one of the most recognized faces in Ghanaian cinema during the 1990s and early 2000s. She has also appeared in several TV shows and stage productions, winning praise for her strong performances.

Over the years, Sinare has received numerous awards, including honors from the Ghana Movie Awards and recognition at the Golden Movie Awards Africa in 2021 for her outstanding contribution to film and the arts.

Aside from acting, she is also a producer and an advocate for women’s rights and creative arts development. She earned a diploma in Theatre Arts from the University of Ghana, Legon, and later obtained both a bachelor’s degree in Public Service and Governance (2021) and a master’s degree in International Relations and Diplomacy from GIMPA.

Her new role as ambassador comes at a time when Ghana is looking to build stronger cultural, economic, and diplomatic partnerships with European countries. Spain is a key ally, especially in areas like trade, tourism, clean energy, and migration management.

Other prominent individuals appointed include businessman Benjamin A. Quashie as High Commissioner to South Africa, former Kumasi Mayor Kojo Bonsu as ambassador to China, and ex-Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, Prof. Kwasi Obiri-Danso, as ambassador to India.

All nominees will go through the official vetting and approval processes before starting their work. With this appointment, Kalsoume Sinare joins the list of creatives given national leadership roles under President Mahama’s administration.
